Free Website Checker

Quickly check if a business is safe to use

Truth Signal is a free website scam checker. Paste in any website and we look up the public record behind it: who runs it, what its customers say, whether it is flagged for phishing or malware, and whether it has leaked customer data. Check if a website is safe and legit before you pay.

How can you tell if a business is legit or a scam?

Scams have never been cheaper to build or harder to spot. AI is now available to use at a fraction of a penny, and that means the ability to throw up a website and take money is easier than ever.

Fake websites cost almost nothing

Artificial intelligence can write a business’s website copy, generate its product photos and add fake reviews and testimonials in a couple of hours.

Scams look legitimate

AI-generated video makes social media ads even more convincing than they’ve ever been. They’ll send you to a payment page and it will look like the real deal – so how do you know it really is?

Checking takes time, even for AI

Company registers, review sites, web archives and security lists are scattered across the web. Even AI agents such as ChatGPT, Gemini or Claude take time to search them, and a quick check could mean you only get a small amount of data.

What is Truth Signal?

Every scam leaves a trail of clues behind it

Scammers can copy a website in an afternoon. They can’t copy years of company records, customer reviews and a real social media following. We collect those clues and show you each one, so you can decide for yourself whether a website is legit.

Low truth signals
  • Its website links to no social media profiles.
  • Its 2 reviews on Trustpilot average only 2.9 stars out of 5.
  • Visitor traffic information was not found from our checks.

Legitimate businesses leave evidence too

A legitimate business builds up a trail over years: a registered company, real customers, a long history online. That trail is hard to fake, which is why fraud websites rarely have one. We call these truth signals, and every report lists the ones we found.

  • It is among the 10,000 most-visited sites on the internet (Cloudflare Radar).

Got a low score? What to do next

A low score is not a verdict. It means the public evidence is thin, or points the wrong way. Here is what to do about it, whichever side you are on.

Thinking of buying from them

  • Read why. Open the report and look at Be cautious and Not found. Not found is not proof of a scam: a new or small business may simply have little evidence yet.
  • Check the company yourself. Look it up on the company register where it is based, such as Companies House in the UK, and make sure the name and address match the website.
  • Pay safely. A credit card or a payment service with buyer protection keeps your money safer. Never pay by bank transfer to a business you are unsure of.
  • Watch for warning signs. Prices far below everywhere else, pressure to buy now, or payment only by bank transfer, gift card or cryptocurrency.
  • Already paid? Call your bank straight away. Then report it: Report Fraud in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, Police Scotland on 101 in Scotland, ReportFraud.ftc.gov in the US, the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre in Canada, Scamwatch in Australia, or to your local police anywhere else.

It’s your business

  • Show who you are. Put your registered company name, company number and address on your website, on your contact page and in the footer. Company details · Website details
  • Be consistent. Use the same business name, address and phone number on your website, at Companies House and on your social profiles. Company details · Website details
  • Be easy to reach. Publish a contact email and phone number, and your returns, shipping, privacy and terms pages. Website details
  • Keep your filings up to date. Overdue accounts or a late confirmation statement at Companies House count against you. Company details
  • Look after your customers. Ask real customers to review you on independent sites such as Trustpilot, Reviews.io or Feefo, and answer complaints. Many good reviews are strong evidence; a poor rating is a caution. Customer reviews
  • Link your social profiles from your homepage, so we can find them. Social presence
  • Protect your email. Set up SPF, DKIM and DMARC on your domain, so no one can send email in your name. Domain and email security
  • Register with the ICO if you handle personal data in the UK. Company details
  • Let us read your website. We honour robots.txt, so a rule that blocks automated visitors hides your pages from our checks. To let us in, add these two lines to your robots.txt: User-agent: TruthSignal Allow: / Website details

Frequently asked questions

How do I check if a website is a scam?

Paste its address into the search box. Truth Signal is a free website scam checker: it gathers the public evidence about the business behind the site, from company registers, review sites, web archives and security lists, and shows you where it points, with every fact linked to its source.

What does a safe site checker look for?

Whether the website is flagged for malware or phishing (Google Safe Browsing), whether the company behind it has had a known data breach, and whether its email is protected against forgery. Our safe site checker looks at all three, beside who runs the site and what its customers say.

How do I check if a site is legit?

A legit site has a trail behind it: a registered company, real customers, years online. Check a legit site and a suspicious one the same way: paste the address and see what the evidence shows.

Is Truth Signal free?

Yes. Checking a website is free and needs no account, and every report is free to read, for people and AI agents.

How is the truth score worked out?

We answer six plain questions from the evidence: business legitimacy, established history, real customer evidence, independent reputation, identity consistency and purchase safety. The truth score is their average, out of 100. From 70 it shows High truth signals, from 40 Mixed, and below 40 Low. A serious warning from the public record, such as an overdue company filing or a malware flag, can lower the band whatever the score.

Does a low score mean a business is a scam?

No. A report is information to help you decide, not a verdict. A new or small business may simply have little evidence yet. If we could not find something, we say so, and it never counts against the business.

Can a business pay for a better score?

No. No one can pay to be listed, raised or hidden, and payment never affects a score.

How do I let Truth Signal read my website?

We honour robots.txt, the file that tells automated visitors which pages they may read, so a rule that blocks them hides your pages from our checks. To let us in, add these two lines to your robots.txt, in their own block with a blank line before them. Your other rules still apply to every other visitor. User-agent: TruthSignal Allow: /

How long does a check take?

A business we have already checked opens straight away. A new one usually takes under a minute, and the page fills in as each source answers.

Can I check a social media channel?

Yes, a YouTube channel: paste its address, for example youtube.com/@name. Other platforms are not supported yet.
